Since WPPI, I have been on a mission to get my photography business going. I’m not going to lie, its been real tough but I have also learned a lot in the process. I’ll write more about my learning experience in a separate blog but one of my goals is to attend as many workshops as possible. It’s hard to attend these workshops as they are rare to find, a little pricey and they also fall during the weekdays. Which makes perfect sense as most wedding photographers are busy during the weekends. So with all that said, I was fortunate enough to find out that Gavin & Erin Wade www.gavinwade.com was hosting a workshop right here in Irvine during a sunday afternoon. I found about their workshop through the [b]School (www.thebschool.com), a forum for wedding photographers looking to interact with professionals and others alike.
This was my first workshop I had attended and the first other photography related event since WPPI. Before attending the workshop, I was expecting to learn the same things I had learned during WPPI and on the internet. But I was totally wrong and Gavin & Erin’s workshop exceeded all of my expectations and blew my mind with the amount of information provided. For those that are interested in learning how to start your own photography business, this is a great workshop for you. Gavin and Erin covered all aspects of photography including how to use the camera properly, the business side of wedding photography, along with workflow after a wedding. He also added in special guests speakers that gave out very helpful information in specific topics (SEO, Wedding Coordinator) you would not otherwise get at a normal workshop. If this workshop is to be offered again, I would highly recommend attending it at all cost. Like Gavin said during the workshop, all the information you would get during this one day workshop can equal to the amount of information you would receive at a multi-day workshop. Included in the workshop was a mock wedding photo-shoot at an Estate out in San Juan Capistrano with two gorgeous models. Not only are they beautiful and breathtaking, they were also really friendly and cool. It seemed like they were having as much fun as I was taking beautiful pictures them. Gavin and Erin were both very hands on during the shoot and made sure we were attended to and answered any questions we had during the shoot. We ended the day with yummy pizza and some one on one time. It was a workshop that I will always remember and be very grateful for.
